Meeting in the Alpes
My best friend Steph and her 2 sisters made the trek out to Les Gets to spend a day on the slopes with me!
Alright. So it's been about a month and a half since I wrote on my blog! Ahhhh. In December I arrived in Les Gets, in the French Alpes, and it have been the best month and a half of my life! I've fallen slightly off the tracks in terms of writing posts, but I am going to update everyone. I am working at a hotel "Au pieds des pistes" (at the foot of the slopes) as the manager of a restaurant at the bottom of the hotel. I work with 14 other staff members, who come mainly from England, Scotland and Ireland... so I am the only Canadian. So far I have sang the national anthem twice for some scottish guests, they love how proud I am of my country. I also have my flag in my room haha! The most shocking thing is that there is actually a Canadian Bar in Les Gets (wtf). I have never seen a Canadian bar in my entire life, and had no idea what to expect when I walked in. It's stereo-typically named "Black Bear", I walked in and instantly felt kind of like I was home. The interior is a log cabin, with Canadian paraphernalia including Quebec Flags, Hockey Jerseys, Loonies and Toonies on the all and even a real moose head and a stuffed black bear. The drinks on the menu are also names after Canadian cities and provinces, so you essentially can order a "Toronto". I've been so lucky to end up where I am, the hotel is so welcoming, the guests are lovely and all the staff are now great friends.
Where I am living is part of the Porte De Soleil ski area, which is an insanely huge ski area. With my ski pass I can ski to so many ski towns in the area, and hop on and off all the lifts and gondolas and ski about 650 km of skiable domain. So far I've been to Les Gets, Morzine, Avoriaz and Ardent, Chatel, skiing max 40km a day. I work 6 out of 7 days, and have one full day off! I work mornings from about 7-10:30, then I am not back on until about 6pm till 10pm at night. Which means I have the entire afternoon to go ski! So far I have skied 500km and aim to ski 1000km!

So far, life is great! I look forward to spending the next 6 weeks here and continuing to improve my french and skiing!
