So here’s another update, I’ve been abroad for about 10 months now, and you know what?
I am surprising myself everyday.
I am currently living in the UK for the next week, enjoying every minute. I’m living in beautiful Cornwall, the very South West of England, right across the channel to where I used to live in Brittany, France. It is a bit surreal sometimes when I wake up and think that,
I haven’t been to my home city in 10 months.
But it is amazing to see how quickly one can adapt to new settings, new places, new people. Sometimes I feel sad, sometimes I feel lonely, sometimes I cry. But that’s all part of being away. You go abroad, and you have all these expectations, that you will be travelling every day, always full of energy and drinking a smoothie bowl for lunch every day. You see on social media the “idealist” travellers. But the reality is, some days you get tired, you are lazy and sometimes you just want to eat McDonalds. Sometimes you don’t want to wake up at 5am and watch the sunrise, you just want to sleep in. But in the end, it is always worth it.
I started travelling at a very young age, and I can tell you that it has opened my eyes to so much. The first time I got on a plane on my own, I was literally going to shit my pants. I remember heading off the Vancouver to ski for the week, and for the first time ever, I had to really keep track of all my belongings, I had to make sure I didn’t loose my passport, and I had to go through customs alone.
Now, I can go anywhere with little to no fear.
I can talk to anyone, I can say “where are the toilets” in so many languages and I am honestly
SO proud of myself for what I’ve accomplished.
I look back on myself 10 months ago and want to pat myself on the back. I’m going back to the French Alpes in a week and am so excited to be back to a place that will be somewhat familiar, and to see it in a different season will be incredible. I have always loved nature, and I will be happy to be surrounded by rolling hills and deep grass.
To anyone who ever has any doubt on if travelling is the right thing to do, I HIGHLY encourage any sort of travel to anyone. Even to get away to a nearby town, a new city in your country or even just experiencing something new.
